Coming of age.

Good day, my love bugs. I turned 21 recently and there are some things I want to share about my journey of self-love. The other day I put on my Instagram stories that I am finally starting to love myself. Hear me out, I have never been a person who lacked confidence, I can talk to anyone, and laugh with anyone, confidence is a part of my personality, I would say. Anyone can be confident, there are TED Talks on different techniques you can use to be confident but loving yourself is a different story. A question that I asked myself at the beginning of my Becoming Her journey is 'Do I like myself?' It turns out I did not. I never gave myself grace, I self-sabotaged a lot, I talked to myself horribly, I was self-deprecating and no one wants to be around this type of a person. Someone who is self-deprecating is toxic and can be an energy vampire. I soon realized that something needs to change because I was not happy with the path that I was on. This is why I started doing self-deve...

Vision Board 2023

Good day my love bugs. Have you made your vision board yet? If not, do not worry I got you. On this platform we are big believers of vision boards. I want you to get excited about making a vision board make it an event. Invite your friends over and do it together even! Cut out every picture with intention pick the words but most importantly have a vision. I advise that you pray or seek on the higher spiritiual power to guide you on this vision. Why make a vision board? Because we cannot be what we cannot see. Even the Bible says that "Without a vision the people perish" A vision board is a template of the person you want to become Your vision board is yours. You can make it look anyhow, I saw a Tiktok video of a lady who made her vision board a Bingo cart and each time she achieves her goal she crosses it out. It does not have to be jam packed with goals, you can just have one vision for the year. It also does not have to have many pictures like the lady ...

Becoming Her:Self-Acceptance

Happy New Year my love bugs. We are all on a journey with different people and different paths. Let us Become Her . The theme for this year is self-acceptance and here is why. Last year our focus was self-love but there really is no self-love without self- acceptance. You cannot hate yourself into becoming the person that you want to be. This is starting at the ground level and accepting yourself as you are. I know we are sold many versions of who you should be online but that would be boring. Are you running away from who you truly are? Are you too busy dimming your light? This theme allows us to laser focus how we think of ourselves and how we speak to ourselves. I did an Instagram post the other day about affirmations you could try to start of in thr new year. On that note please follow @acreatorswrite_ on instagram. I share a lot of what I put on there too and hopefully this year will be the merger for the two. An important aspect of the theme of self-acceptance is your surrou...

Year-End Anxiety.

As I was approaching my exams and realising that we are in the last months of the year I was overcome with so much anxiety. I know it was academic stress but also the thought that 2023 is around the corner and I have more questions than answers. 2022 started off on a very traumatic note for me I was dealing with a lot from the previous year. I spent most of this trying to process all that had happened to me. I do not know how to describe how this year was for me but it was about taking things in, learning and growth. Growth is not cute or pleasant at all. I think I met so many versions of myself this year and in the end I chose me. I wrote this piece for anyone who also might be feeling the same. I know we made vision boards and set goals which all might have not come true or to fruition. If you are a religious or spiritual person this is a reminder that everything happens at God's own timing. The universe will also unfold when it knows that you are ready. Do not be too hard ...

All about Solo Dates

On the theme of self-love, you must try taking yourself out on a date. Solo dates are an occasion where you do something just for yourself. You can consciously go on a solo date or go on a whim. I love solo dates because it is a time when you can spend by yourself. You are not forced to make conversations or to be time conscious. You spend so much time putting others before yourself the time has come to put yourself first. You need to learn to love your company solo dates are the place to start.  Think about it, when going on a lunch date with friends or a dinner with someone special, you go all out. You plan an outfit, hair, make-up the works. How about you put all of that effort to take yourself out? Crazy, right? You are probably thinking about all of the people who are going to be looking at you but if we only knew how little time human beings spend thinking about us we would care less.  Solo dates look different for everyone. You decide what it means to you. Also if you w...

Self-sabotage: Your own worst enemy

Good day my love bugs. At the beginning of the year, most of us made vision boards and set goals for ourselves. We are now in the last quarter, where did the time go? Also, why have we not achieved the goals that we have set for ourselves? You know what to do and if you don't you know where to start. There is a saying that goes, 'It is the success that you are afraid of.' Never have I resonated with something so deeply. At times we face so much hardship, deal with societal expectations, and have a backlog of trauma that we think we are not worthy of the life we want. This is what is called self-sabotage.  The term self-sabotage refers to the destructive behavior that is directed at yourself.  Sabotage is the act of destroying or undermining something often in a covert manner. But how the vision is there? Self-sabotage can look like procrastination where you repeatedly put something off because you think that tomorrow is guaranteed. It is also the negative self-t...

The danger of being a woman in South Africa

Good Day My Love Bugs. Since it is Women’s month I want to wish all of you a beautiful happy Women’s month. Keep on being the pillars of our communities and the powerful matriarchs that you are. As we celebrate Women's month we must not forget all those who have lost their lives to Gender Based Violence (GBV). Unfortunately, GBV is very prevalent in South Africa, and this year alone 41695 cases of rape have been reported. Keep in mind that these are only the cases that have been reported excluding the number of deaths. What is GBV? According to the Violence Against Women Journal, GBV is a violent act primarily directed at someone specifically because of their biological sex or gender identity. In simpler terms, GBV is a human violation act. I think we fail to realize the impact GBV has on individuals, families, communities, and society more broadly. On an individual level, GBV leads to psychological trauma and can have psychological, behavioral, and physical consequences. In many p...
