For your vision board in 2024

Good day, my love bugs.

The beginning of the year is usually a season of reflecting and planning for the next coming months. In last year's post, I emphasized that your vision board is yours, it is also subject to change at any time. You can plan your vision board however you want to. Here are some tips that you can implement in the goals that you have set up this year.

Your intent is important.
When listing the things you want to achieve this year, your intent is important. Write out why next to each goal. This is going to help you choose the goals that are most fitting to you and not the goals that society says we should have. This will also help you in narrowing your focus instead of having 20 vague goals, for example, being in the best shape you would rather start with getting that gym membership or looking at beginner at-home workouts. The 'why' is also what will keep you motivated in times when things do not go that well, when you feel like giving up, or when you are slacking. You will remember the reason you started in the first place.

Struggling is better than doing nothing at all.
One of my favourite mantras is 'to be good at something you need to be bad at it first' I look at some of my old blog posts and poetry that I wrote in high school and I see evolution. The reason why we never go after our goals or try something new is because we are afraid of the struggle. Most importantly we are afraid that other people will see us struggle. We are afraid to be seen trying. Let me tell you as someone who is recovering from 'what will people say' syndrome, you are but a fleeting thought in people's minds. The effort you are making to become the best version of yourself is better than you doing nothing at all. Yes, people will stare, and they may judge or ridicule but this is your life baby!

Develop a routine and habit of stacking.
My dear love bug may this be the year that you have a morning and a night routine. These routines affect how the rest of the day goes and how it ends. Make time for yourself in the morning wake up an hour or thirty minutes earlier, drink a glass of water, and do not touch your phone! List three things you are grateful for and pray or meditate. Do not go to social media or your emails first thing you wake up, it is going to fill you with anxiety. Have a relaxing night routine, decide that after a certain hour, You are done with work, do some skincare or take a bath/shower, journal this helps declutter your mind on what has happened through the day, make yourself a meal, and maybe watch your favorite show. Habit stacking is a method that was created by BJ Fogg and it is a special form of an implementation intention. You use the connections that you have to your strong habits for example, every morning you brew a cup of coffee. You might stack that habit by also meditating for one minute.

Play around with your routine.
Keep adding and extracting to your routine as you go to see what suits you. Play around with your routine so that it does not become boring, try new gym classes, and listen to a podcast in the morning but ultimately you should enjoy your routine. We see productivity/discipline as this strict rigid concept that is not enjoyable but it does not have to be that way.

Your new life is going to cost you your old one.
The first breath when you have been under water is always the hardest but it will also give you the most relief. This version of yourself that you are discovering will cost you your old habits it also might cost you some relationships. It is not easy to make that is why people like to keep their lives the way that they are but this year I want you to center yourself and make the decision that is best for you.

Live better not faster

Good day, my love bugs. Who here only knows a state of freeze? You live in a state of constant, worry, stress, and anxiety. Well, join the club. I have been struggling with so much stress and anxiety these past few weeks that it has deeply affected my sleep schedule. It has made me reflect on my habits and my thought patterns. I realized that I am always looking at what needs to be done next or what goal still needs to be achieved while I haven't stayed in what I already have and am grateful about it. It made me think, that we are always moving especially at a rush pace. Where are well rushing to? The meaning of slow living Slow living is a mindset that encourages us to live in a self-aware and more conscious state of being where we make purposeful decisions for the benefit of our well-being. This mindset disregards the notion that being busy equates to being successful or important. Slow living is a part of the wider slow movement which began in the 1980s in Italy. It began as a m...

The smart to average kid pipeline

My inspiration for this post came from a YouTube video titled ' You were a gifted kid 7 years ago. Now what?' by David Achu, I will link it down below. I won't toot my horn but I was a pretty smart kid. I got most of the awards in primary school and early on in high school. Being smart was my brand until fast forward to late high school and varsity. I know I am not the only one who has had this experience so let's take a lot into the dynamic of being a smart kid, overachiever, or even a child genius. You are not smart, you score well. The public school system in South Africa is focused more on feeding information to children rather than teaching students. The teachers are under pressure, schools are overcrowded and resources are limited. So, the system bases which children are bright on who can memorize the most information and who can get the highest scores. I mean scores do matter, APS/GPA matter and it also determines what you study in the future and...

So you want to start therapy...

Good day, my love bugs. I put up an Instagram poll a while back on my wellness page @ acreatorswrite and I asked you guys what is the one thing you want to try or do in 2024. The majority of the response was therapy. As someone who has been in therapy since high school and someone who works in social services, I know that therapy can sound so overwhelming. Let us dismantle some of the myths that are associated with therapy. 1. Every journey starts with acceptance In the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous , the first step is to admit that you have a problem. This is similar to therapy because denial does not take you anywhere with any journey be it a fitness journey or a spiritual journey- you have to admit that there is something you have to address, a truth you are running away from, or an unresolved trauma that you have to deal with in therapy. Acceptance also comes with accountability in therapy you are going to have to own up to everything you ...
