Let's talk mental health

Why do successful people commit suicide?

If you do not know who Cheslie Kryst is she was an American model, a television respondent and Miss USA 2019. She was also an attorney, with a degree in Marketing and Human Resource Management, she ran track, was a member of the Alpha Lumbda Delta honor society and she got her MBA in 2017.

Now with such an impressive track record and achievements why would she want to end her life?
Well, firstly achievements are not all there are to life. Material belongings are not all there are to life. It was mentioned that Cheslie suffered from high-functioning depression.
This just proves that depression and anxiety do not have a look and that anyone can suffer from it.  The pandemic brought that to life. Also with the state of the world, capitalism and in Cheslie's instance chasing the 'American dream' has defined success in a particular way. Successful people might feel isolated or that they have no one to talk to. They also may feel they have to make stardom look easy. There is also pressure from others to be perfect or maybe financial pressure for example black tax. Cheslie is not the first successful person to commit suicide and will certainly not be the last.

I have seen how vile social media can be and we honestly need to be cautious of the things that we say. We also need not to judge people who suffer from mental illnesses and disorders.

Lastly, not everyone who dies by suicide is mentally ill and not every suicide is planned some are impulsive. Let us make sure that we are the reason why the world is a bit more kinder. If you need anyone to talk to my DM's are open. See you in the next one!

We may have to do this again

Good day, my love bugs. What if I told you that healing is not linear? What if I told you that there is not one big jackpot at the end? What if I told you that just as unpredictable as life is, so is healing? There are no incentives in the healing journey just reflection. At times healing feels like regression and can feel like a cycle of feeling immense contentment and hopelessness. So will the journey ever come to an end? I am still figuring it out but here are some tips about the healing journey you want to know. You are not better than anyone because you embarked on a healing journey. There is a sense of superiority that ‘pop psychology’ can give you which is going to be the downfall of mental health awareness. You should by all means share your good experiences with other people and even encourage people to embark on their healing journeys. However, you do not get to tell anyone that they are less than you or even look down on someone who is not on the same journey as you. Our jou...

Keep sane this festive

Good day, my love bugs. It is the festive season, and most people spend time with loved ones. Home is not also a place that many people look forward to, and if you have made the decision to spend this festive season by yourself, I am proud of you. Here are some useful tips for taking care of your mental health during the festive season 1. Set realistic expectations Am I the only one who feels like the feeling of the festive season has changed over the years? Do not conform to the pressure to create a holiday spirit or to have as good a festive season as the previous years. If we are also keeping it a buck, the holiday spirit that everyone celebrates is mostly created by women in the family who labor for it. Try focusing on the moments that matter most. By setting realistic expectations you relieve yourself from stress and pressure 2. Practice self-care Do not neglect your self-care routine during the holidays, considering that you have spent the majority of the year working on it. Cont...

Life coaches and mentors: Should you get one?

Good day, my love bugs. You most likely have developed your habits, routines, and discipline. You may feel as though you are doing what you can on an individual level, you keep on improving and have set the vision. You just may be struggling with taking the next step and not knowing what move to make. You could have made the move, are in a different phase in your life, and want some guidance. Have you considered getting a life coach or a mentor? The similarities between a mentor and a life coach Life coaches and mentors share the goal of helping individuals develop and reach their full potential by providing guidance, support, and accountability. They both rely on active listening, constructive feedback, and building a trusting relationship with their client/mentee. The key area of both is development as they aim to help individuals identify areas for improvement and work towards personal and professional growth. Empowerment is also a key focus area for mentors and life coaches, they a...
