The Story of Lumi

PART 2

“Zora, Zora, Zora!” Lumi screams.
“What is it?”
She tries to calm herself down. “Hluka asked me out to the dance.
“Haaa, you see? I knew Hluka had it in him. “
Lumi looks down.
“What’s wrong?” Zora asks.
“Khayone asked me out too.”
“Girl, you got two invites to the dance?”
“Yeah”

Lumi still cannot believe that Khayone asked her out. She is very happy about it but also feels guilty. She knows that if she agrees to go with Khayone she has to reject Hluka. Zora just told her to go with who she really likes. She decides to not put too much attention to it as she still has time.

It is time for the discussion about the ORT.
“I would like us to do this project at my house.” Khayone says.
Lumi cannot help but blush. This idea makes her very excited. Everyone agrees to meet at his house.
“We should allocate tasks before then to make things a bit easier.” Lumi says.
Khayone looks at her, it feels as though they are the only people who are in this space.
“I do not mind introducing the topic and doing the statistics” Lumi says.
The whole group proceeds to discuss what each person will be doing.
“Heyy, did you receive my invite?” Khayone says.
“For?” Lumi asks.
“The V-ball”
  “Oh, yes I have.”
“What did you think about it?” It was thoughtful, I loved the flowers. Lumi tries not to show her excitement. “I am glad you like it, I was worried you were not going to like it.” Lumi is surprised, Khayone is really serious about taking her to the V-ball?
“You will let me know “ Khayone says.
“Sure” Lumi adds. Lumi does not know how to feel. She should be happy right? I mean Khayone is her crush. But it just does not feel that and she just cannot seem to put her finger on it.

A palace... this can only be a palace. The houses before? The neighbourhood? Lumi is perplexed she has never seen such houses before and she felt awkward when the maid asked her if she wants anything to drink. At her home you do not send an elder around. Khayone comes from downstairs looking his usual self with a shirt and shorts on.
“ I hope you did not have trouble finding your way here.” Khayone says
“No, I did not. The O’Jays.”
“ Sorry?”
“The vinyl on the wall, it is from the O’Jays.”
“ Oh, that is my dad’s, you really into music?” “My dad used to have one actually several vinyl’s yeah, I love music.”
“ You should come around sometime so that we can play them together.” Lumi smiles “Hello?” there is a knock on the door, it is Gugu one of the group members. As Khayone welcomes here Lumi gets lost in the cappuccino she has been served she does not want it finish.
The entire group discussion they stare glances at each other. Lumi might have thought she was doing a great job at hiding it but everyone can tell that they like each other. Khayone’s dad interrupts the session.
“I am not even going to waste your time guys, I just want to know who my daughter in-law is?” the group breaks out into laughter, Lumi is green the face. They all look at her, “what?” she expresses.
“That is all I needed.” Khayone’s dad says as he walks off.  Lumi’s mouth is left wide open, she now wishes Zora was here. Khayone on the other hand feels proud of himself, the group discussion has come to an end.

As Gugu and Lumi walk out together a car comes toward them, it is Khayone. My dad suggested I drive you guys.
 “You can drive?” Gugu asks.
 “Yeah”.
They both try to climb at the back, Gugu exclaims “haayibo girl! Who is supposed to keep him company at the front?”
“ Why don’t you Gugulethu?” Gugu claps her hands in awe.
“Lumi please climb in the front” Khayone expresses.
“Can I please join you guys?” It is Nthabiseng one of the group members
“Sure” Khayone says.
Lumi struggles to find her footing at the front, she does not know how to act, should look to the front? Perhaps out the window? She tries to make conversation with the girls but it is kind of awkward turning her head back all the time. Nthabiseng posed a question on ‘blessers’.
“ Men always have angle, there is no way someone is going to give you luxuries and money for free.” Lumi says.
Gugu agrees with Lumi but the others disagree.
“There are men out there who are like that” Khayone says.
“Who just want to give out money?”
“Yeah, there are men out there who want to see their women happy and spoiled.” He smiles at Lumi.
“THEIR!” Gugu emphasises
“Do you hear the tone in possession” Lumi adds
“Khayone we are not winning this one” Nthabiseng states.
“Let them have it.” Khayone says

Live better not faster

Good day, my love bugs. Who here only knows a state of freeze? You live in a state of constant, worry, stress, and anxiety. Well, join the club. I have been struggling with so much stress and anxiety these past few weeks that it has deeply affected my sleep schedule. It has made me reflect on my habits and my thought patterns. I realized that I am always looking at what needs to be done next or what goal still needs to be achieved while I haven't stayed in what I already have and am grateful about it. It made me think, that we are always moving especially at a rush pace. Where are well rushing to? The meaning of slow living Slow living is a mindset that encourages us to live in a self-aware and more conscious state of being where we make purposeful decisions for the benefit of our well-being. This mindset disregards the notion that being busy equates to being successful or important. Slow living is a part of the wider slow movement which began in the 1980s in Italy. It began as a m...

The smart to average kid pipeline

My inspiration for this post came from a YouTube video titled ' You were a gifted kid 7 years ago. Now what?' by David Achu, I will link it down below. I won't toot my horn but I was a pretty smart kid. I got most of the awards in primary school and early on in high school. Being smart was my brand until fast forward to late high school and varsity. I know I am not the only one who has had this experience so let's take a lot into the dynamic of being a smart kid, overachiever, or even a child genius. You are not smart, you score well. The public school system in South Africa is focused more on feeding information to children rather than teaching students. The teachers are under pressure, schools are overcrowded and resources are limited. So, the system bases which children are bright on who can memorize the most information and who can get the highest scores. I mean scores do matter, APS/GPA matter and it also determines what you study in the future and...

So you want to start therapy...

Good day, my love bugs. I put up an Instagram poll a while back on my wellness page @ acreatorswrite and I asked you guys what is the one thing you want to try or do in 2024. The majority of the response was therapy. As someone who has been in therapy since high school and someone who works in social services, I know that therapy can sound so overwhelming. Let us dismantle some of the myths that are associated with therapy. 1. Every journey starts with acceptance In the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous , the first step is to admit that you have a problem. This is similar to therapy because denial does not take you anywhere with any journey be it a fitness journey or a spiritual journey- you have to admit that there is something you have to address, a truth you are running away from, or an unresolved trauma that you have to deal with in therapy. Acceptance also comes with accountability in therapy you are going to have to own up to everything you ...
